Setting up your sign-in code

Every sign-in takes two things: your password and a six-digit code from an app on your phone. Setup takes about five minutes. Do it once, before your first sign-in.

Why a code is required

Your contracts are sensitive. The tool holds your agency's contracts and reviews. Only your agency can see them.
A password alone isn't enough.Passwords get guessed, reused and phished. Without your phone, a stolen password can't get in.
It's checked every time. The server confirms the code before any review runs. It can't be skipped.

Step one: get a free authenticator app

Pick any one. All are free. If you already use one of these for work or banking, use it here too.

Microsoft Authenticator

Twilio Authy

Watch for look-alikes. In the App Store or Google Play, check that the publisher matches the name above. None of these apps asks for payment or a subscription. If an "authenticator" asks for money, it's the wrong app.

Step two: your first sign-in

  1. Sign in. Go to policingtechsentinel.com, click Sign in, and enter the email and password you were given.
  2. Open the app. The screen reads Set up your authenticator. In the app, tap + or Scan a QR code.
  3. Scan the square code on your screen. Camera won't scan? Click Can't scan? Enter this key by hand and type the key into the app.
  4. Type the six-digit code the app shows, then click Finish setup. You're in.

Every sign-in after that

  1. Enter your email and password.
  2. Open the app and find Policing Tech Sentinel.
  3. Type the code and click Continue. Codes change about every 30 seconds, so enter it right away.

If something goes wrong

The code was rejected
Wait for the next code and type it right away. Still failing? Set your phone's date and time to automatic.
New phone, or the app was deleted
Email support. Your code setup is reset, and you repeat Step two.
Password won't work
Check caps lock and try once more. After several tries, wait a few minutes, then email support.
